What OTR means to me

Old time radio is Harold Peary's...(the Great Gildersleeve)... interaction with Marjorie, Leroy and Birdie in the family then the great bits with Mr. Peavy and Judge Hooker....OTR is Fibber McGee and Molly having their doorbell ring umpteen times a show with Harlow Wilcox visiting every show to extol the virtues of Johnson's Wax. OTR is Jack Webb as Sgt. Joe Friday investigating crimes on the streets of Los Angeles.
Comments:
OTR to me TOO is hearing the doorbell ring at Fibber and Molly's and wondering if it will be the always funny and pestering Doc or the loud Gildersleeve (gosh darn you Fibber!) or rich Abigail or my favorite, Teenie (who of course, was voiced by "Molly"). "Hi Mister" and "I'm hungry!". They just don't make 'em like that anymore, do they?

And I love Dragnet and Nighbeat as well. I think I like Nightbeat a little more. I'm not sure if those "noir" shows were the inspiration for the noir films of the same time period or vice-versa, are you?

I have a really large OTR collection (about 50,000 shows) that I will never ever be able to listen to. I listen all I can and I still can't make a dent in it. But it's always there for me. And it's one of the greatest pleasures I know. When I try to express my love of OTR to others and encourage to "take a disc home and give it a try", they practically laugh at me.

I'm glad you shared your OTR thoughts on this page, I would genuinely like to see more of your thoughts here - I would gladly respond to your new thoughts too.

Oh wait, my favorite doorbell ringer is the Mayor! It's the best part of the show to hear Fibber and Molly (purposely??) flustering him with their enigmatic puns!

Just had to put that in.....
